New Baby Essentials List Part 2 (Toys)

16 May

Toys

1. I’ve never got a chance to try this aden + anais Sleep and Feeding System  but it sounds like a perfect newborn gadget – it helps keeping track od feedings, it plays soothing white noise sounds and lullabies and has a room temperature indicator! What more do you need? You can get one from Noeuf or aden + anais home page

2. Love these hand knitted soft rattles from Dandelion made of pesticide-free bamboo rayon and stuffed with natural corn fiber filling. Available from Alex and Alexa

3. How lovely are these teething toys from NiHaMa, Etsy boutique? Love the pastel colors.

4. I’ve been eyeing DINGaRINGs for a long, long time. They just look so fuzzy and fun!

5. Another great product from Hevea also made of natural rubber free of any kind of toxins. Available from The Thinking Baby

6. We had this Baby Gym from Ikea for a long time. When Tila was done with lying on her back she loved exploring it and especially play with the hanging ornaments which are also great for hand motor skills as they can be taken down and put back on through holes

7. The perfect play mat. The cover is made from organic cotton, removable and can be easily washed. Inks used are non toxic, it looks absolutely gorgeous and seems muj fun! See and read even more here

8. I must admit I’m not loving the looks of this Lamaze toy but it’s one of the best tummy-time helping tools ever! Especially with babies that hate their tummy time. It helped our rebellion more than expected. But I’d say it’s for babies from 3 or even 4 months and up not newborns

Genius Toys: Shusa Toys!

30 Apr

Shusha Toys

This is what I call perfect toys! Made of wood, painted with non-toxic paints and besides looking incredibly cute they also help develop skills like motor, logic, imaginations and taste (take a look at this video to see what I mean!). Made at home by a parent duo with backgrounds in graphic design and architecture. Perfect, I tell you!

If you’d like to know more on how to place an order just contact them

Olliblocks

24 Apr

Olliblocks

How madly adorable are these Olliblocks? And you actually make them yourself. All you have to do is purchase an individual set (or all three and save a bit), print out and stick the images on plane wooden blocks! Adorable as heck!

Olliblocks

Each set costs $5 (ca. €4) and $12 (€9) if you get all three

Etsy: The Wooden Horse Boutique

8 Apr

I’ve mentioned The Wooden Horse Etsy boutique quite a while ago when I first spotted this gorgeous vintage inspired swing but their range has expanded quite much since then and you can only imagine how gorgeous all the other products are!

The swing is still my favorite but I also really love their whole baby range – the organic wooden rattles are just brilliant and absolutely beautiful. And how adorable is the laptop? Or the vehicles and the puzzles? And did you see their pushchairs? Oh the list just doesn’t stop… I want everything. For Tila of course. And my imaginary baby. I would only borrow a thing or two every once in a while.

Toys With a Message: ALBURNO LAST toys

26 Mar

ALBURNO is a handcraft design studio based in the north part of Italy that produces different kinds of exquisite wood items using the old, traditional techniques.

I fell in love with their wood toy range called LAST toys. Each animal carries a very important message of either being in danger of or already are extinct due to mankind’s wrong behavior.

I just love the idea of a toy that also tries to pass awareness to the youngest ones.

Currently there are three different animals in their online boutique and each costs €45. There’s also an English Leicester Sheep produced in limited quantities – only 99 were made and each is marked with its own batch number. The kit with the sheep that also comes with the wool and knitting needles costs €90

Alphabet Puzzle

6 Mar

I’m on the lookout for alphabet-learning tools and after I found this puzzle made of maple wood on Etsy I immediately ordered one – with a little bit of a twist though. First I wanted an alphabet in our mother tongue, Slovenian and I also wanted the doodles engraved under each letter to represent the sound that the letter makes.
I drew the doodles and have sent them to Sarah, the designer and she did all the rest.

I really love how it turned out and Tila loves to play with it – it’s helping her learn the letters so much and without her even realizing it. All she does is play. And I silently clap in the background!

The price of a puzzle is $29 (ca. €22) and shipping to EU comes about €15. For moderations like images under each letter will cost you a little bit extra – you can contact Sarah on sarah@simadesignstudios.com for more information

Oh WOW! Macarena Bilbao

28 Feb

I discovered this shop thanks to Maria of Babyccino Kids and had to share it with you immediately!

About two years ago Macarena made a play kitchen for her kids which brought her a few orders and so a Macarena Bilbao brand was born. Since then she’s also added a few more vintage inspired toys like Playstands, the coolest Guitars, Cameras, Phones and some Kitchen Accessories.

Everything is handmade by Macarena herself in her workshop in Tenerife and can be sent across Europe. You can actually see production time and shipping costs of each item when you click on them.

ALERT! She’s having a 25% off sale on all her Kitchens as we speak – but hurry up I’m not sure for how long!

NÄMÄ SHOP

3 Jan

I discovered NÄMÄ SHOP via this beautiful blog and I think it’s just a bit too amazing not to share it with you.
Ruth Landesa is from Finland and she’s collecting items from different kinds of local talents – from craftsmen, designers, friends to local companies etc. And there are also a few items Ruth made herself.
And you can just see how careful she is with selecting the right products for her small online boutique since each and every single one of them is absolutely gorgeous. The only bad thing is that it’s a mix of household and kids’ products so you really just want it all! Especially the weak kind of girls that have a big passion for both! Ah darn, I wish I had been better the whole last year so Santa would leave more money under my tree… Oh well, I start today!

Shipping to EU runs from €8

A Must-Have Baby Toy!

20 Dec

I remember when Tila’s choppers started to come out and just about everything (including me) looked like a perfect chewing toy to her! Well everything except the rubber teething toys we were armed with.
Then one of the moms in my mothers group introduced me to this simple yet genius teething toy, which was a simple wooden handle with a bunch of beads, attached to it by thick strings. I immediately rushed to the nearest toy store selling them and after that that was our number one toy for a really long time. It was one of the rare toys that Tila could easily hold and she sucked and bit the hell out of the beads! I think we had about three just in case one got lost (or chewed through) and one also had to stay in my purse at all times!

I found one that looks almost the same as ours at Noeuf. This truly is one of the least expensive (€15) yet most valuable baby toy out there!

GIVE-AWAY! Lille Huset

22 Oct

I completely fell in love with these houses the first time I spotted them. They don’t only look completely and utterly stylish but are also eco-friendly and let child’s imagination to create the final look.

Lille Husets (made in Chicago but inspired by a Norwegian type) are made of recycled paper and the fronts of birch wood. And when you’re either ready to pass it on or maybe just want to “renovate” you can simply buy the paper part kits and start over! Each house also comes with house components like some basic furniture pieces and accessories plus DIY design ideas book and a few more things that will give you some ideas on complimenting your own Lille Huset.

Individual house costs $60 (€45) but there is also the XS Lille Huset for $12 (€9) and a Lille City with four different style XS houses for $45 (€34). And the replacement paper parts that cost $35 (€26,50). International shipping is $25 (€19)

GIVE-AWAY:
Now the part where I turn green: there is one lucky person amongst you that is going to win a Langley house thanks to the brilliant mind behind all this, Alyson!
Now what I want you to do this time is to name the other two (just as talented) staff members. You can leave your answer by commenting here, below this post or on our Facebook page under the same post.

You have time until the end of this Sunday, October 28th and the give-away is open WORLDWIDE!

Extra entries:
If you’re so kind and decide to share the news about this give-away with others via Twitter, Facebook or your own Blog, I’ll return you the favor with extra entries. Same goes for liking Lille Huset’s Facebook page.

Fanny & Alexander

26 Sep

This is another brand that made my jaw drop – literally! And yours will too, I promise!
Buenos Aires is lucky enough to be able to brag with this outstanding brand, Fanny & Alexander that decided to turn its back to plastic, battery-operated toys and would rather go back a few decades when children didn’t even know, want and need that.
Think beautiful, wood-carved toys that promise to encourage kids to use their creative imaginations; hand-knitted clothes and animal toys; ridiculously adorable shoes and notebooks so cute you’ll never want to use.

And like the founder Delfina Aguliar says “ Fanny & Alexander products are keepsakes, object people get sentimental about.” Who in their right mind would ever want to give away a single piece from them? Imagine that camera on your bookshelf… Or the shoes as a reminder how tiny someone’s feet were once upon a time… Or framed hand-knitted cardigan? Or the satchel on my shoulder… Oops, went a bit off-track here, sorry.

They are planning to open an online boutique soon but until then you can place your orders by sending an email to contact(AT)fannyandalexander.com.ar

But just to give you a taste: cameras cost about €30 and €40, the carpenter’s tool set also €40, ballerinas are ca. €55 and hand knitted jumper €65

Now back to my promise: go though their products (here) and try keeping your mouth closed…

Holztiger Wooden Figures from Little Acorns to Mighty Oaks

23 Aug

If I had to choose only one Tila’s favourite toy it would definitely be her Schleich figures – ok that’s a lot more than one but they all fit into the same category and they all reside in the same basket, so I think that counts.

I have to confess she doesn’t have the modest collection around but in my defence she plays with them EVERY single day! They also helped her learn the animals really soon, she plays with them in every single room of our place and even in the bathtub, with their help she invents numerous stories and events and I could go on for hours describing all the great stuff they make her do…

So when she received these two most darling giraffes from Little Acorns to Mighty Oaks she was as excited as I would be with a pair of brand new shoes or God forbid – a bag! And I was too to be honest – first they are made of, yup – wood! And second they are a lot bigger than expected so they also make really beautiful decoration pieces after the play.

Holztiger Animals cost between £4.50 and £9.50 (ca. €5.50 – €12) and postage for UK is £3 and rest of the Europe £6 (about €7.50)

Ps. Don’t you love that you can see their whole range on one single page?
